Motivated by a deep commitment to family and community, Ruth has devoted her professional career to making a difference in the lives of individuals and families residing in the Charlotte–Mecklenburg community. A proud graduate of West Charlotte High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Ruth began her civic career as a board member and eventually chair of Kids Voting in Mecklenburg County. This was followed by two terms on the Mecklenburg County Board of Commission where she advocated on behalf of children, the environment, and fiscal accountability. Today, Ruth is continuing that tradition of public service in the North Carolina House of Representatives. She also finds time to serve on a variety of boards and committees throughout the country with a special focus on racial reconciliation and sensible environmentalism. Yet, with all her civic, political and professional responsibilities, Ruth still considers her commitment to be a loving wife to Ken and a caring mother of four adult children as her primary responsibility and greatest delight. Together, the family serves their community by volunteering their time and sharing their blessings.
