A native of Virginia with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree and a Master of Architecture degree from Virginia Tech, Vicki Saville has integrated sustainable architecture with landscape architecture for almost 30 years. Since 1998 she has served as Facilities Architect/Landscape Architect for Charlotte–Mecklenburg Schools, the 19th largest school system in the nation.
Influencing campus and school building designs, she has championed the integration of accessible landscape, 'green' architecture and sustainability as ultimate goals. LEED Accredited and a founding Treasurer and Board member of the USGBC Charlotte Region Chapter, Ms Saville is also a National Trainer for Green Advantage, a LEED based educational program geared toward Building Construction Professionals.
During her tenure at Charlotte–Mecklenburg Schools she has helped to facilitate designs and construction contracts worth over $1.3 billion toward building over 35 new or replacement elementary schools, 6 middle schools and 4 high schools, as well as editing and recently publishing version one of CMS high performance Design Guidelines.
She is a member of the American Institute of Architects and the American Society of Landscape Architects and Board member of the Charlotte Building Enclosure Council and the Charlotte Chapter of the American Institute of Architecture. She is a recent presenter of education based programs to the Regional Council for Education Facilities Planners International and the Regional American Society of Landscape Architects. She is CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) and Advanced CPTED certified through Timothy Crowe and the Charlotte–Mecklenburg Police Department. Through the Talent Development Department of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Vicki teaches adult professionals about the USGBC LEED and sustainable construction practices. She is currently enrolled in the MBA program for Sustainability at the San Francisco Institute of Architecture in Berkeley, California.
Vicki regards safety, accessibility and sustainability as hallmarks of her work nationally and with this growing school system.
Her spare time is spent with her husband Keith as grounds keepers for their four and a half acres in the heart of Charlotte.
